Hi, my name is Lynda Harding. I run a little business known as Torquay Holistic Health. My main role is as a Naturopathic health practitioner, but working for myself, I also wear many hats including marketing director, accountant, receptionist, stock inventory and more!
Many people become Naturopaths following a health crisis of their own and become inspired by what natural medicine has done for them. Me? I’m a little different. I have always been drawn to helping others, so began my brilliant career as a nurse, working on medical and surgical wards in a busy suburban Melbourne hospital. Over the years, I became increasingly disillusioned with what I saw, lots of people, many elderly, taking lots of medication, and not getting any better. In fact, people often seemed to get worse!“There must be a better way”, I thought, and after much further investigation, I found it! I discovered that while hospitals are great places to go for acute, or life-threatening issues, modern medicine doesn’t seem able to combat the chronic, long term epidemic of illnesses we are seeing in the Western world.
It seems people are staying alive longer, but our quality of life is poorer.I discovered that a Naturopath looks to relieve not only the symptoms of your health concern but address the underlying causes as well. When you have symptoms, it’s your body’s way of trying to return to balance. (If you have a chest infection, for example, you produce phlegm to trap the bacteria, and cough to get it out of your body.) Your body is an amazing thing, it is always trying to restore homeostasis or balance. So taking pharmacy medications to prevent symptoms can actually be counterproductive to what the body is trying to do! And so began my journey into natural medicine….
One of Naturopathy’s aims is to address your diet and lifestyle, noting any nutritional deficiencies or excesses. It is an underestimation to say that diet contributes to good health; diet is vital for good health!! Food intolerances are common, in fact, practically everyone I see has low-grade intolerances, even if they don’t realise it. Healthy digestion is the key to all other aspects of good health. Without it, we are unable to assimilate nutrients from our diet, and may not efficiently remove wastes, resulting in poor energy and many other problems.
It is my life’s purpose is to assist others to be their healthy best, both physically and emotionally. If you want to know more about how naturopathy can help you, or you would like to make an appointment, give me a call on 0402 539 020. My door is always open to those who are willing to reclaim their health.
Yours in health and happiness, Lynda.
